Abstract:
Spot Elevation. This layer is a set of points delineating point elevation features worldwide. It is based on the National Imagery and Mapping Agency's VMAP Level 0 Vector Base Map product. It has been updated to show recent changes in the Balkans, Middle East and Asia (East Timor).

Areas of missing data were filled in using a VIP (Very Important Point) algorithm run against a global mosaic of the SRTM30 1KM per pixel DEM. Hand editing was used to remove excess points.

Purpose:
To provide users with a set of essential basemap features for use as a stand-alone map or putting other tabular or geospatial data in a larger spatial context.
